then you will have the problems you describe.  That's because there's a 
mis-match between the command line and your CL program.  Not between the 
CL and the RPG.   --buck

**__> One way around this is to wrap the call to your CL program into a 
command, and then let the command processor handle it. 

Like instead of: CALL PGMAA ('ABC' '123'), 

where the two parameters are 256 long, you can use:

CMDAA FIRSTPARM('ABC') SECONDPARM('123'). 

It's the best way I've found for handling the situation where I need to submit 
a batch job that just executes a call: 

SBMJOB JOB(JOBXXX) CMD(CMDAA FIRSTPARM('ABC') SECONDPARM('123')
