That (consistency) is why I tend to use:

Ind = ( Ind = *off );

rather than

Ind = not Ind;

My problem with this is that I have to actually evaluate the code in my head
to be sure what you're doing.  I understand the consistency aspect, but it's
less intuitive to my poor beleaguered brain cells.

I DO though usually use parens:

        EvenRow = (NOT EvenRow);
