I agree with you, there should be some way of distinguishing the scope.
My favourite prefixing method not only specifies the scope, but also the
source and the type. I like to use my own simplified (and yes:
imperfect, incomplete and thus sometimes confusing) version of the
hungarian style:

<scope><source><type>Variable

<scope>: g or l for global or local
<source>: p for parameter, none for a regular variable
<type>: a, n, b, c, p, t, d, z for Alphanumeric, Numeric, Boolean,
Constant, Pointer, Time, Date and Timestamp

So at one glance I can see where it comes from, what type of data to
expect (and the methods I can use) and the scope:

lpaParameter (local scope, parameter which is alphanumeric), gcaConstant
(global scope, alphanumeric constant), etc.

I have seen some other usable types as well; although I try to keep away
from 'special' characters like #, $, @, etc. as they tend to be
different when changing codepages.

Just my humble contribution,

Cor Takken

Subject: Naming Global Variables

I know when it comes to Naming everyone has their own method,
good or bad. But I was curious if anyone had any standards
for naming their global variables. I prefix mine with G@
which I don't particularly like sometimes, but I do want the
variable name to be noticeably different when someone is in a
procedure so they know the variable is global. One common
example of when I do this is for an RRN field.

Also, for those of you who do prefix global variables, do you
use that prefix when the variable is only ever used in an
entry module's mainline code?
