I've found problems in the past when using *all'0' (or *ALL'anything') as *
part* of an assignment. Even if you do Char10 = '1' + *All'0'; you get an
error, I think.

Like everyone says - you have to do it as a two-step process - set to
*ALL'0' in step one and then subtring into the field in the second step.
