I have a variable which contains say a value of 01 I need to convert it
to
a character data type but I need to include any leading zeros..

So in this particular case, I have a numeric field which can hold a 6
digit
numeric value: 000001 I need to convert it to a char type but retain all
leading zeros.

I thought I could use %editw() but it does not seem to work. %editc()
drops
leading zeros so that won't work for this particular problem.

Suggestions?
