Hi,

Tables with a period in its names can be read by either native I/O and embedded SQL.

Here are examples for both:
1. Native I/O
FMyFilePF IF E DISK ExtFile(MyFile) UsrOpn
D MyFile          S             10A
/Free
 MyFile = 'FILE.XX';
 Open MyFilePF;
 setll *LoVal MyFileF;

 DoU %EOF(MyFilePF);
     Read MyFileF;

     If Not %EOF;
        Dsply MyField;
     EndIf;

 EndDo;
 *InLR = *On;
/End-If

Embedded SQL:
Note: With embedded SQL the table name must be arounded with double quotes.
Example:
D Text            S             35A
C/Exec SQL
C+ Select MyField into :Text
C+   From "FILE.XX"
C+   Where MyField2 = 'Whatever'
C+ Fetch First Row Only;
C/End-Exec
 /Free
    Dsply MyField;
    *InLR = *On;
/End-Free

Mit freunlichen Grüßen / Best regards

Subject: Periods in filenames

We've been having difficulty accessing some customer files
with periods in the filenames (from an ILE RPG program).

I'm not the one who ran into the problems, so I don't know
the details (although I'm thinking the period is being
interpreted as a member name separator), but does anybody
have the slightest idea what's going on, and how to deal
with it?
