hey, progress. The problem is I dont think the i5 has enough CPW to
handle feature rich data structures like limitless arrays.

With all your comments lately I'll have to assume you're just baiting the
bear and not speaking from any facts.

not really. I do think the cheerleading that goes on here for IBM
actually hurts the system because IBM mgmt might not know how best to
improve it and what customers need. I would like to know how PHP
style arrays can be added to RPG without the need for more CPU. Not
saying that is being asserted, just that I assume that the lack of
CPW has kept features like this out of RPG to date.

I cant afford to upgrade from v5r1.

Which says one of two things:
1 - You're running on really old hardware and don't want to upgrade, or
2 - You dropped maintenance and don't want to play catch up.

2 yrs ago I bought a 170 on ebay from IBM for $2000. 460 CPW with v5r1
installed. I am still trying to make a go of it by writing software
for the i5 but that is mostly to finish what I started ( and it is an
interesting project ) V5R1 works well for me. And the system is fast
enough. You just have to be smart about the code you write.
