Try:
C Eval ExtPrice$ = %editc( *%dec(*Amt * -1*: 9: 2)*: 'J': '$')

When you edit the result of an operation the compiler uses a temporary field, which may be bigger than what you need.

I just confirmed your results. It's gotta be a bug in the compiler.

Subject: %editc an expression

Amt is 9s,2
ExtPrice$ is 14a

Amt = 50

C Eval Amt *= -1

C Eval ExtPrice$ = %editc( Amt: 'J': '$' )
Results as $50.00-. Which is what I want to see.

C Eval ExtPrice$ = %editc(Amt * -1: 'J': '$')
Results as $50.00. (no minus sign)

Why is this? What am I missing? Something about the intermediate
result of the expression?

Thanks,

Kurt Anderson
