Aaron,

I'm with Joe on this one - by default I include a 300+ byte PSDS /COPY
member in *every* RPG/400 and RPGLE program I write and I've never seen any
performance problems. Mind you, I've never taken out the PSDS definition and
compared performance without, but even in my web server programs (where I'm
trying to mimic interactive green-screen performance over the web), it's
pretty blazing. Hell, I include it even if I don't use it.

My guess is that it's much cheaper, performance-wise, than having to
activate a bunch of service programs or other such stuff that happens on an
initial invocation. A few milliseconds, perhaps.

Aaron, I have used the PSDS throughout my career, in programs ranging from
large monolithic programs to small service-type programs called thousands

even millions of times.

At no point have I ever noticed a performance hit from using the PSDS.
Never.
