Hi,

the worst thing in my opion is,
he already asked this question on wednesday and I gave him the correct
answer even with enhancing his own example.
But he either ignored it or did not understand it.

Mit freundlichen Gru?en / Best regards

He should check for the *in03 after the exfmt and not at the top of the
loop. The loop would better be expressed as DOW 0=0, and then exit
(leave) on *in03. The way it is if he uses the f3 key the logic
continues to the bottom of the loop and then to the top where it exits.

I am sorry but it doesnt matter whether it is a DOW or DOU the logic of
the program MUST go from the screen and through the steps to the end of
the loop, so it will ALWAYS write a record to that file no matter what
you do.

Or am I missing something?

Steve

The DOU loop checks at the end, so it is always executed at least once.

I'm NOT going to give you the technical answer, but anyone who has
had the
CS101 course (basic programming logic) has surely been taught that a
DO WHILE loop (RPG/400's DOW operation) doesn't check the looping
condition until it reaches the END of the loop (RPG/400's ENDDO
operation).

I think that's incorrect. Doesn't the DOW check at the start of the
loop and the DOU check at the end?
