Alan,

I hesitated to post this earlier but I think this program does probably
90% of what you want.  It selects records with SQL using a multiple
record fetch with a MODS.  The subfile can be sorted by positioning the
cursor in any column on the screen.  When the subfile is sorted the
position to is changed to reflect the new sort order.  A user space is
used to hold the records read and as input for the sort and search
routines.  Sorting is done with QSORT and searching with BSEARCH.

What it doesn't have is the ability to sort on multiple columns in a
single sort (the date and time are treated as a single column) and the
use of SQL for positioning.

Anyway, a lot of what has been mentioned in this thread is in the code
so maybe it will help.

Yes I understand that if the sort is changed, the position to
will have to reflect that sort.
I never said that this project would be easy.
I've not had much dealings with processing a user space, so
that might be worth looking into
