Adam,

I use a compile preprocessor exit program which automatically runs things
like DSPPGMREF over any program or module when it is compiled. It also uses
the QBNLMODI/QBNLPGMI API's to update a central file with details of all the
exported procedures and their descriptive text (it even flags an error and
won't compile the module if the developer hasn't added descriptive comments
for each exported procedure!). Sort of like Scott's Wiki, but more
green-screen-ish :)

Best of all, because it's part of our compilation process, there's no extra
step required - every time anything is compiled, the xref database is
updated.

I have an article in a forthcoming issue of iSeries Network News (August, I
think), which shows the code for our compile preprocessor with an example
exit program, which you could use as a template for something like this.
