Steve,

Change to Query Manager (QMQRY) and use the option to create Forms. With QMQRY 
Forms you can omit fields in the result set to be displayed, but those fields 
can be used in headers and footers, and (though not sure about this) in 
(sub)totals lines. 

you will discover, that QMQRY is more versatile.
