Brad,
I don't follow you. What does the "Z" edit code have to do with %TRIM?

I admit I'm one of those, but trying to change.. lol..
that's normally the last thing on my mind, but I do WANT to
change that habbit... it's almost as hard as quitting
smoking.. <smile>

But, I'm still wondering what may be going on with the
%trim bif on this other machine... why it doesn't seem to
be working. I can't recreate it anywhere.

Could the 'Z' in the edit code portion be causing an issue?
Someone mentioned maybe Z wasn't Z on that machine... I
wasn't aware you could change what edit codes meant. :)

Joe,
I see that casual use of %TRIM all over the place and
people wonder why it
doesn't work. I wish more people would habitually use
%TrimR() and only use
%trim() when they think about think about it first.
Thanks.

Absolutely right, Bob. I was thinking about TrimR,
because Aaron was asking
about trailing blanks. I should have written:

%LEN(x) = %len(%TrimR(x))

Which of course works fine. Thanks for pointing that
out!

Joe

%LEN(x) = %len(%Trim(x)) is just wrong.
