Can you post your D specs and the cross reference entries for those D
specs?  If a standalone field is defined with type 'S', it should remain
type S in the xref.  

The situation that Birgitta is referring to is when you define fields as
zoned (S) on I specs, or you have an externally-described file with
zoned (S) fields; by default those fields would be defined as packed in
the program.
