No. That's not how freeware works. It's how open soure works. There's a big difference between open source and freeware, despite that some people use them interchangably.

Open source means that it's freely distributable, and the source code is freely available. That means you CAN'T have it yanked one day by the author. If the author stops supporting it, someone else can start distributing it and supporting it.

Freeware basically just means that the author is giving it away for free. He gives you no rights to it. You can't distribute it or maintain it yourself unless the author says otherwise.

Bill, if you are listening, for the benefit of the community please grant
rights for people to host it on sites (with complete due credit to you).

People have made this case to him many times already. (I think this is the 4th time I've witnessed it.) I think you're wasting your time.
