The second parameter of the %Char BIF describes the format of the data
in the first parameter. @dateA is initialized in *ISO format, not *ymd/.
Try replacing *ymd/ with *ISO.

I am try to use free format to convert a date field inot a numeric
field..

I used the following command and it does not work.

     D*  date fields..
     D @dateA          s               d   inz(D'2004-12-04')
     D*  numeric fields..
     D @numA           s              6  0 inz(041205)

      // date to numeric..
       @numA = %dec(%char(@dateA:*ymd/):6:0);

I am new to RPG. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
