One could do that, or one could do the following:
EVAL %SUBST(MyTenCharField:1:2) = *ALL'*'.

But you can't use *ALL'*' to copy 2 '*' to a 10 position field.

Instead, use the C runtime function memset() to do this.

Callp   memset(%addr(myField) : '*' : 2)

This copies the '*' two time to the target field, and does not touch any
remaining positions in the field.
