Walden I am not familiar with the shared-wight index I would of thought 
since UCASE is a SQL function it would be efficient...  I will have to 
look around for what your speaking of...

Agreed. However, John, keep in mind that by using UCASE you're forcing
the iSeries to read every row in the table. I'd look at creating a
shared-weight index on that column and dropping the UCASE function.
