In general, you're likely to get a better response if you mention the specific error message. 'Balks' doesn't really help me figure out what is happening. Offhand, I think Andrew probably has the answer - is SCSNM defined in your program? The compiler listing will tell you - look at the cross reference at the bottom. Second guess: is SCSNM defined inside a subprocedure? Older SQL precompilers don't care for this.
