spec search alone is meaningless when checking for file usage.

Especially if lots of embedded SQL is in place....

the NC clause is much like"  SET OPTION COMMIT = *NONE

NC meens 'no commitment control'

if you're going to leave in the F spec, make it USROPN so that it won't
waste time opening it.

if the compiler balks at never opening the file, put something like:

if    1 <> 1
open filename
close filename
end

as always, comment the code as to not confuse the next poor shlub that
comes along to figure it out.
