Project is too vague to even begin to discuss.

By Queries, I suspect that you are not talking about Query/400, but 
instead are talking about STRSQL, based on your Shift-F1 comment.

And I find it rather intense that the 40th statement is dependent on the 
1st.  Are you really doing something like a 
Select ... from ... and having the output go to a file and then doing 
another select on that newly created file?  And repeating this 40 times?

Then, yes, using a program is definitely the way to go.  Whether or not 
you make that program imbedded SQL, RPG I/O, stored procedure, etc or any 
combo of the above is a lot more analysis.  And, while we all love a good 
challenge, we'd just as soon prefer doing it for someone who pays us than 
to do this whole project from scratch for nothing.
