Will anyone please help answer the following faq:

Where/what is a good reference to learn how to access JDBC from RPGLE?
I have a RPG developer that needs to access MS SQL Server data. Having
totally gagged on the price of IBM's suggested solution, and not really
having a whole lot of luck with one third party solution, and REALLY not
liking the idea of putting software on each SQL server we want to access,
we decided to evaluate using RPGLE to call JDBC to get to the data. How
best to learn how to do this? This developer supposedly took a brief java
course.

Also any suggested reference materials? Perhaps the following:

JDBC and Record Level Access with IBM AS/400 Toolbox for Java
by Joe Pluta
Book sounds pricy, but it's supposed to more of a course than a book. The
second url explains that better (but doesn't give the discount or the
kickback to this wonderful list).
