Not sure what "free format is outdated" means. 

Should have said Twenty-First century.

Old code stays where it is at. I am talking about moving into the future but I 
guess when you consider that almost nobody has moved into the ILE world, I 
suppose almost no one would move to a new language.

And how are you going to solve the problem of maintenance of that "old code"? 

Personally, I don't mind fixed format: I think it is the beaty of the language, 
as other languages has theirs.
