I don't use QTEMP for work files unless creating a temporary file through
SQL. I usually add a member using the job number to an existing file and
then remove the member when the job is complete. This avoids problems with
object locks and is supposed to be faster than duplicating the entire object
to QTEMP.

The disadvantage of this techinique is these members will remain if the job
is ended abnormally for some reason. The good news about that is debugging
and recovery is made easier since QTEMP objects are deleted when the job
ends.

a friend suggested that I use a work file in qtemp for the processing of the
data...however, I have never used work files before, let alone in qtemp.
