As Bob Cozzi said, UpdHtmlVar2 does not return a value.

It, like UpdHtmlvar, stores in the CGISRVPGM2 service program the value you want used for the variable specified in the first parameter, substitution variable name. WrtSection outputs the stored value whenever it finds a substitution variable having that name.

The first parameter is not case sensitive.
