Hi Charles,

I see what you're saying -- RRN is also a concern when using IBM's APYJRNCHG
command. You need to have a good starting point.

I ran across two other things. TAATOOL has an APYRMTJRN command (TAATOOL
being considerably cheaper than 30K I think), and a white paper at
http://www.shield.on.ca/download/Remote%20Journaling%20and%20Data%20Recovery.pdf
that explains how you can use APYJRNCHG with the remote journal receivers --
basically have a copy of the local (source) data and journals on the remote
(target) system, start remote journalling to a separate library on the
remote (target) system, then when you need to apply changes, you save the
journal receivers from the separate library on the target system and restore
them to the copy of the source journal library that resides on the target
system, and voila! they're attached and you can APYJRNCHG. Of course, as
with your concerns about rrn, if anyone has messed with the copy of the data
on the target system, you could definitely corrupt your data.

As I said in an earlier email, we're not looking to write a full-featured HA
solution, just a relatively simple set of programs to handle under 30 files.

assurance that the RRN of a record in the source file has the same RRN in
the destination file.

recorded added to the source at RRN 20 gets added to the destination at RRN
20. Also consider a RGZPFM on the source file, how can you assure that the
file is destination stays in sync.

update record to the destination before update record. How exactly they do
this I'm not sure because as I remember they don't require BEFORE & AFTER
images to be journaled!

task. Not that you couldn't do it, but I know it wouldn't be cost effective
for me to write my own. Particularly if I were to try to provide an
equivalent level of features/functionality.

than they used to be. iTera was I believe <30K for a P20.
