To answer your question, I want to use the alarm() api in my
application, and indeed it does generate a signal when the alarm goes
off.

In response to your question, I decided to fiddle with the alarm() and sigaction() APIs, and I've got them working. I used this technique as an easy way to make the connect() API time out for an article that will be published in my newsletter tomorrow.
