the RPGLAB?  (www.rpgiv.com/downloads)
The source for many prototypes of OS/400 APIs is location there in the
QCPYSRC source member.

This makes no sense.  I think you just want %Size(PMessageText) Or
%Len(PMessageText) for that matter - they are interchangeable in this
context.  What you are currently doing is asking the compiler to pass the
length of the _result_ of calling %size - which I suspect will be a 10U - so
the value passed will be 10 not 512 which appears to be what you are after.

As others have said, get rid of your 4Bs - I haven't checked the API but if
the docs say the fields are BIN(4) then the correct RPG definition is 10I or
10U.  Or worst case scenario 9B.  The numbers don't appear to make sense I
know but that's how RPG works.
