Display Files: Window

I am having a subfile/display program problem.  I am trying to display a 
message in a window and once the user presses enter on the window, I want 
to go back to the prior screen without losing any information on that 
prior screen.   Is there a certain way to clear a window so I can get back 
to the previous screen?

I am sure this has been asked before, but I tried searching but didn't 
find anything.
