I HIGHLY recommend learning to use STRDBG.  With it, you can step
through each line of your code and then view the individual variables.
If you did this in your case, you would have noticed that the DESCRIP
variable changed back to its original value after the CHAIN.

Using a debugger is perhaps the most important step to learning any new
language, IMHO.  That's why I find integrated development environments
like WDSC so crucial.
