These are the steps I'd take to find out which API to use:

a) Go to the information center. http://www.iseries.ibm.com/infocenter

b) Select your region & release of OS/400

c) Click Programming -> APIs -> APIs by Category

d) Click "Message Handling APIs"

e) Scroll through the list and see the summaries of what the APIs do.  The
one called "Send Reply Message (QMHSNDRM)" seems like the obvious choice,
so click on that one for detailed info.

Using this technique, you can often find the API you're looking for even
if you've never used it before. Of course, if you still can't find what
you're looking for, asking on this mailing list is a good next step.
