The theory here Tony, is once you have the ability to override via command
then any new additions are not tied to waiting for IBM to upgrade. For
example, the RPG compiler team has no plans on ever adding TGTRLS as an
HSPEC keyword. (But the SQL precompiler people will be happy to show you
a way to get around that by using the SQL precompiler under V5R3 - like
I've said - that team has CHANGED!). Granted we hope it doesn't take as
long to add the precommand/command/postcommand enhancement as it did for
CL enhancements, but once it's there, the wait is permanently over.
There is a value add to IBM doing this versus rolling your own, or
purchasing a change management package. And that is having a standard
throughout the iSeries realm. Dekko has chosen the change management
road. For this, and for other reasons also, like versioning, etc.

Re: Suggestion: File to use when compile

But wouldn't those type of options be better suited as H-spec
keywords? Such as Optimize(), Option(), etc? Some of these H-spec
keywords are available as compile parms, but some are not. Such as
ActGrp(). Rather than treat these as some other type of animal
(command override), why not treat them as their similar counterparts?

... And why would it take longer (10 years) to create a new H-spec or
a modified F-spec, rather than a completely new type of animal
(command override? command default?)

get it.
