LOL!  Just kidding

RPG only uses the + and - signs when you break a literal in half and
continue it onto the next line. Otherwise NO continuation symbol is needed.
The only exception is breaking a field name which uses three periods as the
continuation "symbol".

The following statement is too long to fit on one line.
When I attempt to split it as follows, 

IpOutPrms.IpRetCod = IpB00ODBF(IpInPrms.File: + 
                                  IpInPrms.Library:
                                  IpInPrms.Member);
I received the following compile error:

*RNF7421 30      1 Operands are not compatible with the type of operator.

I change the line to:
IpOutPrms.IpRetCod = +                                       
   IpB00ODBF(IpInPrms.File:IpInPrms.Library:IpInPrms.Member);
and received the same error.

In order to avoid wrapping (and make sure that was the problem)
I created 'file' using  'Like(IpInPrms.File)',
              'library' using 'Like(IpInPrms.Library)', and
              'member' using 'Like(IpInPrms.Member)'

and changed the calc line to:
IpOutPrms.IpRetCod = IpB00ODBF(File:Library:Member);

The program compiled fine.

I don't want to create fields just because of 'line-wrap' issues.

Does anybody see what I am doing wrong in my 'wrap' attempts?
