Have you tried specifying /QDLS instead of \QDLS?  the iSeries uses the
Unix-style directory separator, /, instead of the MS-DOS style \.

I have no problem reading files from QDLS with opendir(), readdir(), etc.
Do you have permission to the folder?  Are you enrolled in the system
distribution directory?
