Are there two F-specs, and two open data paths?  Is it possible that
the bound program is filling _it's_ subfile, and the display program
is trying to display _it's_ empty subfile?  I have never actually
tried to do this, so I have no idea how the working code would look.
I guess my first stab would be to use share(*yes) on the open, but I'd
have to do some reading on shared ODB for display files.

Either that, or have the bound program pass back the data (in a DS or
something) and have the display program actually do the writes to the
subfile.
