RE: Using ISO To Test Date.

Thanks for the input.  I'll be sure to use the Date data type in the DDS 
next time.  For now I'll use the 19000000 solution because I have to use 
those fields in an open qry statement that I'm building and I'm not 
scrapping it all down after figuring them out lol.  Building opnqry 
statements are such a pain.

You use the MAPVAL keyword to convert a non-date (such as a blank or zero
entry) into some pre-defined value, such as 0001-01-01 and then test for
that value in your code. Granted the implementation of dates sucks 
(because
they don't allow a zero value) but if you work with it instead of fighting
it, you can make it happen for you.

Can that allow a zero for the date in case I didn't want to use the date 
as a search criteria if it was not entered.  Default seems to be 
0001-01-01.

Yes, change the display file to use the L data type and let the 5250 
display
manager do the validation for you.

Using the following to test a date and I'm not getting what I want.

Crcfdt is defined as P(8,0) and is an input field on a display file.  If I 


put in 200405 and then say forget the remainder of the date, it ends up 
saying it's 0020/04/05 which is a valid date according to *ISO.  Any ideas 


on what I should do to avoid this?  Any edit code I could use in the 
display file to left justify and right fill with 0's?  Thanks,
