There are two different RPG Certifications, Programmer and Developer (with
Developer being the harder one. To read the requirements see
http://www-1.ibm.com/certify/certs/a4_index.shtml
I found that requiring the cert (or dangling a bonus "carrot") was a good
way
to nudge experienced programmers into a broader knowledge of RPG, which
was a benefit to both company and employee.
