RE: Reading a joined file in RPG

I understood Willie's request to mean 'multi-format' rather than 'join'. If 
that's what he actually needs, isn't a multi-format logical updatable by 
record-format name?

Slightly off topic, a search in DeveloperWorks turned up two intriguing 
articles on updatable views. The first shows a _possibility_  for a way to 
update join views that might reach the iSeries someday. The second is much less 
applicable, but both articles give good background on the issues that must be 
overcome in order to make such stuff work:

I heard an IBMer talk on this a number of years ago at COMMON(?). Though it 
doesn't help much, it's felt a little better seeing why it's taking so long.
