LOL!  Yeah, it took me about 3 hours to come up with a good name.  You
wouldn't believe how many names are already taken.  It was a Saturday and I
was supposed to be mowing my lawn but instead I was inside programming and
all I could think of was my neighbor yelling at me "Mow Your Lawn!!"  I
realized there could be no better name for my site:-)

Anyways. . .
I was reading about the next generation of data bases that will provide an
XML interface (whether it be DB2, MySQL, M$ SQL, etc) and I got to thinking
how easy it is to access any table on an iSeries with Java.  Then I realized
that I had already written the needed Java code for one of our sister
companies so I said "heck, I had better make a tool".  I don't know if/when
DB2 will have an XML interface to it, but it is fairly simple to create a
programmatical interface so that is my goal.

Yeah, but I am finding that doesn't mean a whole lot.  Of the other two open
source projects I have out there (RPGMail and RPG XML Parser) I have pretty
much gotten zero help from the outside world.  It would be nice if I could
get some help, but it isn't the worst thing in the world because I have
benefited from so many other open source/free projects (HTTP API, IFSIO_H,
WRKDBF, LSTFFD, HTTPTOOL, etc) that I am more than willing to give back to
the community.  Besides what else is there to do once the kids and wife have
gone to bed other than program or play Unreal Tournament 2003? <BG>

If you have specific requirements for a tool like DB2XML please email them
to DB2XML@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and I will work them in as best I can.  As of
right now my requirements list is based on what I think should be in it so
it might be kinda narrow minded:-)

Does anybody else see a need for this in their company?  One obvious
advantage is that you can get at any remote or local database via XML.  It
could save you from writing a ton of web services to output file
information.

If I ever create my own iSeries-related web site, I'm going to call it
www.gobowlingdrinkbeer.com.  (The new season starts!)  How do people come up

So, I says to myself, even though I'm not doing XML right now, any site
named
mowyourlawn.com must be worth at least a one-click shot so, sure 'nuf, I
head on
over and find myself mostly intrigued by the upcoming DB2xml.  We support a
*bunch*
of clients from our location, so this might come in handy.  Is this an
open-source
project?  Inquiring minds want to know.
