Whomever <big fat grin> thinks they can say for certain which is 'better' is
more astute than I.  I prefer to use record format names for everything
because it is simply consistent.  When I see a read against a file name, I
know intuitively that I am dealing with a multi-format logical OR waiting on
I/O from a communications/display file.  It lets me see the
unusual/exceptional situations.
