Has anyone ever used an analogy successfully on these lists? :-)

Using that analogy, you'd say the cat's owner is the customer of the cat
food company. It is the cat's owner that pays for the food. But if the
cat
won't eat the food, the company won't sell a second can to that cat owner
ever again.

Booth,

When it comes to compilers, Joe, (and other developers) are the customer,
NOT the people he is writing code for.

After all, if auto manufacturer "A" buys his steel from "X". Who is "X"'s
customer: "A" or the person who buy's cars? I say "A". After all, "X"
might service the end user better by adapting his steel that it no longer
fit's "X"'s specifications but instead fits some other manufacturers, but
"X" is going to be honked.
