The compiler knows the operator precedence rules. It has to. Parentheses are
a crutch I rely on to make sure my logical statements mean what I want them
to mean and maybe make them human readable.  

Back when I took C, my instructor was a programmer who taught night classes
because he needed no sleep.  The one thing he let us bring to tests was an
operator precedence chart.  I took that to mean that he didn't think it was
reasonable to expect people to have it memorized.  BTW, in the early parts
of the course, he included insanely convoluted expressions on the tests that
required either having the chart memorized or having a copy with you. I
asked him if I would ever see things like that in real world code.  He
smiled and said "Yes."<g>  Thank heaven RPG doesn't have a dereferencing
operator or prefix/postfix operators.
