You can use *date to do this. I'm curious why you say you have to parse out
numbers from a date field?  A simple move statement will place the contents
of a datefield in a numeric field:

     C     *ISO          Move      DateField     DateNumeric

Hi All,

This should be simple but I've looked and looked...

I just need to initialize an 8 digit numeric field with today's date in
YYYYMMDD...

I can do it if I jump through hoops with a date-type field and parsing out
the actual numbers but isn't there a simpler solution using UDATE or *DATE
or a single move?
