This is going to be a "holy war."  You know that, right?

In my shop, I've deliberately decided NOT to make this part of the
"company standards".  I've decided on the "use the best tool for each
project" approach, which has worked pretty well.

One thing you didn't mention, that you might consider, is what you're
going to need to do in the future.   As computers continue to evolve and
improve, I think you'll find the need to be able to code things like
lines, fonts and graphics.   Requiring people to use the more limited
O-spec approach might make things look like a "legacy system" if you're
not careful.
