I have struggled with the same thing concerning Java.  But I am constantly
finding new ways to use it as I learn more about the language.  I think the
more you get comfortable with it the more likely you are to use it.  If your
boss has given you rights to develop using VB why not use it for other
projects more often?

You're right - use it or lose it.  It IS tough to try to learn something
that you may not put to use right away.  A new sql technique is ok.  You
now know it can be done, and hopefully you'll know where to look it up.  A
language is another thing.
