Mark,

try this on for size:

update vacation set field = 'x'
 where employee in
      (select employee
         from empmaster
        where company = '1')

and

delete from vacation
 where employee in
      (select employee
         from empmaster
        where company = '1')

If you want to double check which records you'll be updating/deleting, try
it this way:

select employee
  from vacation
 where employee in
      (select employee
         from empmaster
        where company = '1')

hth,

rick

Hello all,

I would like to know how to do an SQL update or delete with a subselect.
What I have is a file that is keyed on social security that contains
information about employees vacation. I need to change some records in the
file for a specific company so I'd need to join to the employee master by
social security and select based on company number. Does this make sense?

Thanks,

Mark
