By default I believe if you don't put a date in a date type field it will put
the *LOVAL value in it, such as 0001-01-01 00:00:00:000000.

Any null-capable field should be first checked for its null status then
the value.

Nightmare? What's better putting a fictitious date value instead?

Bill,

Use the null flag for the field and then in the RPG program set
%NULLIND(field)=*ON.

Thank you,

Is it possible to have RPG output blanks or all zeroes to a date field
defined as "L *ISO" in the physical file DDS source?

The reason I ask is because I have a file that I'm adding the date field
to but only want the date to be in certain records.

I checked the archive list and couldn't find anything.

Bill
