external ds pointer subfld

I have a data structure that has a subfield of type pointer:

 dstm              ds
 d stmSz                         10i 0
 d stmLx                         10i 0
 d stmFill1                       8a
 d stm_pData                       *

and I want to externally describe this ds
D RowStm    E Ds                  Extname(ComDsStm) Prefix(Row)

but dds does not allow a field to be a pointer! Is there a way to externally
describe a data structure that has a pointer sub field?
