It sounds like a problem that I had with an Intermec printer once.
Check the printer message queue for a possible "End of Forms" message.
 The problem I had was very similar but I remember there was an
audible click which happen to be a bad relay on the main board.

Some methods to chase would be to place the Zebra in Hex dump mode.
You should be able to see all the data arrive.  That will rule-out a
"timeout" problem.
